WWE Becomes the Shane McMahon Show
With growing interest in AEW, you would think that the WWE would be starting to worry just a wee bit about the competition. Instead, they have implemented some questionable segments, terrible storylines, and just a subpar product all around. Unfortunately, part of the issue is that the company seems to be heavily revolving around Shane McMahon.
Fightful Select reported just yesterday that pushing Shane McMahon (on both RAW and SmackDown, despite the brand split) has unfortunately caused a bit of a rift backstage. WWE began to use a Wild Card Rule, which makes absolutely no sense and has seriously limited screen time for mid-card talent.
Additionally, Shane-o’s heavy push isn’t helping the situation. The report reads:
“The decision to heavily feature Shane McMahon in the middle of a Wild Card scenario that already limits screen time for others is ‘infuriating.’ “
The report also says that the talent is getting annoyed with Shane not working live events but being given screen time.
Some IWC rumors suggest that the WWE is trying to mimic the McMahon/Austin feud using Shane and Roman Reigns. Although that seems plausible, it’s hard to believe that it will really work out well. Realistically, Roman Reigns is far from the bad ass Stone Cold Steve Austin character.
Matt Hardy Tests a New Gimmick
It appears as though WWE Superstar Matt Hardy is trying out a new gimmick. He’s been posting some interesting things on his Twitter page over the last few days.
In a recent video, the caption stated “YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND HOW HARD IT IS TO BE MATT HARDY.” He complains about all the things he needs to do as a WWE performer during the course of the video.
“…I was tasked with fulfilling two intricate, detailed, compelling segments of live television. I can’t put in to words how difficult that is. I don’t even think the Authors of Pain could be the authors of my pain. You don’t understand how hard it is to be Matt Hardy.”
It is possible that Matt is another Superstar feeling underwhelmed with the company. After all, many Superstars are less than thrilled with the direction. However, Matt is nothing short of a professional in any company he’s been a part of. Getting the groundwork ready for a heel turn might be where this is heading.
