Real Madrid Sign Ferland Mendy
Los Blancos sign the French defender who has just completed a second successful season with Lyon until 2025.
Mendy is the third big signing of this transfer period for the Spanish giants following the announcements of Eden Hazard and Luka Jovic’s transfers over the past week.
Like Jovic, Mendy is young at 23 years of age and arrives to back-up and develop under a senior squad player. Namely, Marcelo.
As a result, Madrid are certain to be finding new homes for current left backs Theo Hernandez and Sergio Reguilón. Whether it be out on loan or sold.
Furthermore, the signing of Brazilian center back Eder Militao may leave Nacho Fernandez surplus to requirements and looking for a new club.
The Spanish defender occasionally fills in at center and left back for the whites. But is now likely to move on from the Spanish capital in an expected clear out.
Like his new colleague Marcelo, Mendy is an attacking left back, frequently getting forward to serve as an extra goal threat.
To enumerate, in 44 appearances this season for Lyon, the Frenchman has scored on three occasions, and assisted another three.
Nevertheless, his performances have only resulted in one appearance for his national team. French coach Didier Deschamps instead preferring Ferland’s namesake Benjamin Mendy and Lucas Hernandez.
Although signing for 13-time champions of Europe Real Madrid may result in more opportunities in the future. Mendy will be presented in the Santiago Bernabeu next Wednesday the 19th of June.
