Jasper Cillessen Close To Signing With Benfica
Benfica is very close to signing Barcelona backup goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen this summer.
The Dutch international has a contract with the Catalan side until June 2021, which contain a €60m release clause.
The 30-year-old is looking to get first team minutes as previously reported.
Cillessen came to Camp Nou in the summer of 2016 and has been a great backup to first team keeper Marc-André ter Stegen.
Additionally, Barça is open to the move given that the Eagles have no problem with picking up Cillessen’s salary which was too expensive for them two summers ago.
However, Benfica is trying to lure Barcelona to make the deal by promising priority in interest for emerging stars at the Portuguese league leaders.
The Blaugranas have already started to search for another backup for the German starter.
Among those backups are Ajax Andre Onana, Monchengladbach Yann Sommer and Real Betis Pau Lopez.
Of all the potential backups, Sommer and Lopez are the top options given that Onana is having starting minutes and may not want to make the move.
