Hurricanes Shutout Coyotes

The Carolina Hurricanes hosted the Arizona Coyotes in Raleigh this Sunday afternoon. After a disappointing three-game skid, this was a much-needed shutout win. Our goaltender looked impressive, not letting in any goals. The team looked sharp in front of him, scoring three.

Warren Foegele Puts Them on The Board

After a relatively dead first period, Warren Foegele was able to fire a puck past the Yotes goaltender, Adin Hill. Nine minutes and 44 seconds into the second period Foegele scored off a rebound with an assist from Calvin De Haan and Brett Pesce.

Andrei Svechnikov and Sebastian Aho

Andrei Svechnikov, this kid is a powerhouse on the ice and in our top three goal scorers with nine goals in 32 games. Only four minutes after Foegele scored, Svechnikov was able to send in a beautiful snapshot. He was on the ice just a few seconds shy of fourteen minutes, but made those minutes count. He drew a disappointing penalty in the first minutes of the game due to a rookie mistake. Fortunately, the rest of his play and his beautiful shot made up for that. A little over four and a half minutes into the third period, Sebastian Aho fired in a snapshot with an assist from De Haan and Teuvo Teräväinen.

Three Stars of the Game

Petr Mrázek had a beautiful, well-deserved shutout. Today’s game was his first shutout as a Carolina Hurricane. In fact, Mrázek had the first Hurricanes shutout of the season. He faced 23 shots and denied every, single one of them. Sebastian Aho scored one goal and had five hits. De Haan had two assists and five hits. And of course, in true Hurricane’s fashion, another home win means another storm surge!

AHL Demotions

Three players were demoted this afternoon after the game. Clark Bishop, Scott Darling, and Janne Kuokkanen were all sent down to Charlotte. Bishop has moved up and down throughout the season, scoring a goal and assist in fifteen games. Kuokkanen was called up and skated in three games before being reassigned this afternoon. Scott Darling got the start between the pipes in Friday’s 6-5 shootout loss to the Capitals.

Jordan Staal, Micheal Ferland, and Curtis McElhinney have all been out with various injuries. The demotion of Scott Darling likely means McElhinney is ready to return. Hopefully, Staal and Ferland are close to returning as well.
