Panthers score three unanswered goals in the third period to beat the Jets 4-2.
The Florida Panthers split the season series with the Winnipeg Jets once again as they win 4-2 in the global series. Additionally, the Panthers split the Global Series with the Jets at 1-1-0 a pop.
The game featured the return of goaltender Roberto Luongo as he made 32 saves on the night.
Connor Hellebuyck made 22 saves for the Jets.
Game Summary
1st period
Goal: WPG 1-0 WPG
Nicholaj Ehlers would open up the scoring for the second game in Finland with his second of the season. Ehlers would be sent on a breakaway thanks to Blake Wheeler. He would take a backhand shot that would deflect off of Luongo’s pad and Ehlers would stuff home the rebound despite getting pressure from Aaron Ekblad. Time of the goal was 8:53.
Goal: FLA 1-1
Evgenii Dadonov would extend his point streak to nine games with this deflection on the power play. Keith Yandle would pass the puck to Vincent Trocheck on the top of the wing then return it to Yandle. Yandle would tee off a slap shot which deflected off of Dadonov in front of the crease and behind the net. Time of the goal was 14:29.
Goal: WPG 2-1 WPG
Patrik Laine would score his fourth goal in two games with this power play tally to give the lead back to Winnipeg. Laine would take it to the center of the right wing after almost loosing the puck out of the zone and rip it top shelf past Luongo. Additionally, the goal was assisted by Wheeler and Dustin Byfulglien. Time of the goal was 17:16. This would be Winnipeg’s one and only power play for the game.
Shots on goal were 14-10 in favor of Winnipeg.
2nd Period
Goal: FLA 2-2
Mike Hoffman would extend his point streak to eight games with this tally on the power play. Mike Matheson would feed the puck to Hoffman from the blue line and he would drag it to the top of the right wing and rip it past Hellebuyck. The goal was also assisted by Nick Bjugstad. Time of the goal was 4:59.
Goal: FLA 3-2 FLA
Yandle would give the Panthers the lead on the power play once again. Yandle would fake a shot then feed it to Huberdeau. Huberdeau would return the puck to Yandle and he would tee it up and blast it. However, it may have deflected off of Dadonov, so this goal may changed in the future. On the bright side, Dadonov was credited with an assist. Time of the goal was 19:34. With this, the Panthers capitalized on three straight power play opportunities and would finish 3/5, the best power play performance of the season for Florida.
Shots on goal were 22-17 in favor of Florida.
3rd Period
Goal: FLA 4-2 FLA
Frank Vatrano would secure the Panthers lead and extend it to two goals. Huberdeau would go on a breakaway but felt too much pressure from Byfulglien. As a result he would feed the puck to Vatrano who was all alone and he ripped it top shelf. Time of the goal was 12:15
Final shots on goal were 34-26 in favor of Winnipeg.
The Road Ahead
Florida (3-5-3)
Florida will not play until Thursday night when they come home to play Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers on November 8th at 7:00 pm eastern time.
Winnipeg (8-5-1)
The Jets will not play until Friday night when they take on the Colorado Avalanche at home on November 9th at 7:00 pm central time.
