Philadelphia Eagles Trade for Wide Receiver Golden Tate
Today’s trade deadline has come and gone with plenty of action. One of the biggest moves today came from the Philadelphia Eagles as they sent a third-round pick to the Detroit Lions for wide receiver Golden Tate.
The Eagles have been searching for a complementary receiver to go with Alshon Jeffery, and they now have their guy. With a win last Sunday, Philadelphia moved into second place of the NFC East, and this move puts them in prime position for a second-half Super Bowl run.

Tate has been a phenomenal receiver since signing with Detroit. The star receiver has averaged 93 receptions, 1,056 yards, and 4.75 touchdowns per season since 2014. He was also leading the Lions this season with 517 receiving yards and three receiving touchdowns before the trade.
Adding Tate gives Philadelphia a stud receiver to pair with Alshon Jeffrey, Nelson Agholor, and tight end Zach Ertz. Golden will give Carson Wentz yet another option to get back on track to his MVP caliber play. Philadelphia ranks 16th in passing yards per game this season, and with Tate added into the fold they will only rise.
Grade: A
Although the Eagles had to pay a steep price of a third-round pick, landing Golden Tate is huge for this offense. Tate is a very underrated NFL wide receiver, and being paired with all of the great offensive weapons in Philadelphia will only strengthen his play as well as the Eagles’ offense. The Eagles show once again they are all in on winning another championship.
What This Means for Detroit
This move puts Detroit in a weird spot between trying to win and rebuilding. Losing Tate leaves Detroit with only two viable receiving options in Marvin Jones Jr. and Kenny Golladay. The Lions’ offense is ranked 20th in passing yards this season, and will only get worse as their top three receivers now only have 59 receptions this season.
With Matthew Stafford’s prime years being wasted on a team with no weapons, one can only imagine how long it is going to take before he wants out.
Grade: C-
This team has been average at best on offense, and losing their best receiver only makes things worse. If Kenny Golladay can somehow become a bonafide number one receiver, this grade would be better, but I am not putting all of my eggs in his basket.
The only reason this trade is not an F for Detroit is the fact they landed a third-round pick. Anytime a team gets a pick in the first three rounds there is some praise to be had.
