Baltimore Ravens Receive Running Back Ty Montgomery

As the trade deadline was approaching, more trades spontaneously popped up. The Green Bay Packers traded away their power running back Ty Montgomery. Montgomery heads to the Baltimore Ravens while the Packers receive a 2020 seventh-round draft pick, NFL Insider Ian Rapoport reported.

Montgomery was originally drafted in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft as a wide receiver. He converted to a running back midway through the 2016 season after the Packers needed more depth in the backfield. The trade comes two days after Montgomery ran the ball out of the end zone to try and get good field position for Aaron Rodgers and the Packers to make a game-winning drive.

Unfortunately, he fumbled the ball, and the Los Angeles Rams took over at their 20-yard line. This prevented that Rodgers ‘magic’ every Packer fan was hoping to see. The Packers fell to the undefeated Rams 29-27.

After the game, Montgomery expressed his frustration and confusion with his role on the team.

Ravens’ Running Game

The power RB could fit in well at the Ravens. Baltimore’s 19th ranked running game doesn’t even average 100 yards per game and has five fumbles on the season.

Their top rusher, Alex Collins, has 358 yards and five touchdowns on the season. Oddly enough, backup quarterback Lamar Jackson is second in rushing yards. He has 129 yards and a touchdown so far.

Adding Montgomery could help give quarterback Joe Flacco a rest. He is powerful and able to get those extra yards when needed. Flacco is averaging 43 pass attempts per game and the running backs are only getting about 12 carries a game.

The Ravens sit third right now in the AFC North with a record of 4-4. Adding a running game will better equip Baltimore to stay in the game and on the field longer.
