Sting Talks Current WWE Status in Recent Interview

Undoubtedly, one of the greatest WCW Legends, Sting made his debut into the WWE for a short run back in 2014. Despite many believing he would never cross into Mr. McMahon’s territory, he made a huge impact when he did. Sting made his WWE debut back at 2014’s Survivor Series pay-per-view, which saw him take on The Authority. The feud with The Authority members would come to a close at the WrestleMania 31, much to the entire world’s dismay.

Following that loss, Sting would only be essentially forced into retirement following a match at Night of Champions. He unfortunately suffered a legitimate neck injury following one of Rollins’ buckle bomb maneuvers.

Sting officially hung up his boots and retired, headlining the 2016 Hall of Fame Ceremony. However, it should be noted that Sting has not yet undergone the surgery required for his injury. That surgery would absolutely mean that he could never wrestle again.

Recently, WWE Hall of Fame Legend Sting was interviewed by a radio station, 99.7 CYK. During that interview, there were many intriguing takeaways. First off, he puts emphasis on Ric Flair really “putting him on to the map” during their match at Clash of Champions. He also notes that he prefers smaller wrestling promotions, where he can hang out with his old friends.

On Entering from the Rafters

Of course, since Owen Hart’s tragic death during a stunt requiring him to enter the ring from the rafters, Sting doesn’t really like to talk much of his own experiences. He does, however, mention in the interview that there have been some close calls. Specifically, he recalls a night in Chicago, where a Vietnam veteran had flown him via helicopter:

“I’m sweating right now telling you the story…[he] goes, ‘Sting, if by chance your rope or your cord gets caught up in my blade, I’m gonna have to cut you loose.’ And I kind of chuckle a bit. And he’s looking at me with these cold eyes. I’m like, okay, you’re not joking, are you?”

Sting also mentions that the helicopter was swaying back and forth while hovering over water during that episode, which really scared him.

Who Would He Fight if Given the Chance?

Of course, there are so many dream matches that many of us would have loved to see The Icon in. On numerous occasions, Sting has confirmed that if he never wrestled again, that would be fine. But to no true surprise, he does reveal that there would be only one man he’d fight for one last match, if given the opportunity:

“I would only consider one opponent. The Undertaker. And that’s it. Anyone else at this point…why? But, I’ve always loved the idea of the Taker/Sting thing. So many ideas in my head, you know. How to make it just a night that people would never forget.”

Sting says that he’s been thinking of this iconic match for decades. Additionally, he says he would not return in a General Manager role because it would tarnish the mystique of his character.
