Mae Young Classic Competitor Injured During Semifinal Match
Earlier this week, WWE began taping for the second annual Mae Young Classic. The Mae Young Classic began as a tribute to the late, great, WWE Hall of Famer, Mae Young. WWE uses this tournament as a platform for some of the biggest female wrestlers from around the world to showcase their skills in front of a broader audience. Globally recognized names such as Toni Storm, Piper Niven (known on the independent scene as “Viper”), and Tessa Blanchard competed in the previous year’s tournament. This year, however, saw a Mae Young Classic competitor injured during the semifinals.
During a match with Rhea Ripley in the quarterfinals of the tournament, NXT Superstar Tegan Nox took to her high-flying style and attempted a running dive out of the ring. During the landing, Nox appeared to have taken a rough bump, visibly injuring her leg in the process. Nox attempted to continue on, but the match was eventually called off moments after the injury. Nox was then helped to the backstage area by ringside officials.
Update on Tegan Nox
After a series of dark matches, WWE COO Triple H took to the ring to announce that Tegan Nox is indeed injured and would not be able to compete in the tournament any longer. He did not go into specifics, but Triple H did mention it was a break in her leg. ProWrestlingSheet has confirmed that the injury was a broken leg, but has not specified which leg it was. This unfortunately follows Nox’s absence at the previous year’s Mae Young Classic due to an ACL injury.
Tegan Nox Tweets Regarding Injury
Earlier this morning, Nox tweeted out to her followers regarding her injury:
