Chelsea Kepa Deal 80 Mil Euros To Leave Athletic
Chelsea is making a move for Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga. This amid Thibaut Courtois decision to exit the club for a move to La Liga Real Madrid. The Blues are willing to activate the release clause based on €80 million.
Onda Cero correspondent Alberto Pereiro went further to say that Kepa would be presented at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday morning.
Nevertheless, Chelsea has been linked to Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak and Stoke’s Jack Butland. However, neither of which have come through fruition. With just days/hours away from the beginning of a new season and the closing of summer signings, the Premier League giant’s door is closing fast.
However, despite the clubs in conversation with each other, the player needs to be convinced about a move. Chelsea would be playing Europa League alongside Arsenal and Burnley this season. Needless to say, with Maurizio Sarri at the helm of the team, the potential exist for a good season with hopes to win some metal and gain a spot in Champions next season.
Ironically Enough
Real Madrid eyed Kepa last season and considered a winter transfer for the youngster. However, Zinedine Zidane stopped the transfer and believed it would put unnecessary pressure on Keylor Navas. While this would only answer the immediate need for the club, this would hinder the long-term future that the club sees itself with now wanting to sign Courtois and Chelsea closing on Kepa.
Nevertheless, Chelsea would offer Kepa a five-year contract which would likely be worth six million euros annually.
In addition to this, should the signing go through, Chelsea would be breaking Liverpool’s €73 million signing of Alisson from Roma this summer for a goalkeeper.
Athletic Bilbao
For the Basque club, they are in a comfortable position at that position. They currently have Iago Herrerin and Alex Remiro ready to replace Kepa at the Estadio San Mames.
