Madrid Loan Kovacic To Chelsea

Real Madrid loan out Mateo Kovacic to Chelsea in a deal that sees goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois head to the Spanish capital on a permanent transfer.

The Croatian midfielder expressed his desire to leave the Spanish capital in April with Manchester United and Tottenham being interested. However, the situation remained relatively quiet until Monday night.

Currently, Real Madrid possess a host of midfield talent. As a result, skilled as he may be, Kovacic experiences difficulty breaking into the starting lineup. Fellow Croatian Modric remains first choice as well as Toni Kroos and Casemiro.

Additionally, for the the deep lying midfielder there is competition with Dani Ceballos to replace the three midfield starters with the Croat often playing over the Spaniard.

Many believed that with former coach Zidane’s departure, Kovacic would see more playing time. However, perhaps due to the additional exit of teammate Cristiano Ronaldo, the former Inter Milan player asked to leave.
