Real Madrid Sign Eidur Gudjohnsen’s Son

Real Madrid have signed the son of former Chelsea, Barcelona and Iceland striker Eidur Gudjohnsen. The teenager named Andri Lucas Gudjohnsen will join Los Blancos youth academy after making the announcement on Instagram Monday morning.

“Very excited and proud to announce that I have signed with Real Madrid!” wrote the 16 year old. “Looking forward to the future.”

Uniquely, Andri comes from a family of successful footballers. In addition to his father Eidur is the Icelandic teen’s grandfather Arnor Gudjohnsen who also enjoyed a professional career with Anderlecht and Bordeaux.

Likewise, each generation has proudly represented Iceland internationally. In fact, in 1996 then 17 year old Eidur replaced his father Arnor in a 3-0 win against Estonia. It was the first time father and son played on the same team in an international match.

Of course Eidur is perhaps most remembered for his days at Madrid’s eternal rivals, Barcelona. Additionally, Andri himself has spent time at La Masia, Barcelona’s youth academy before moving to Espanyol and finally the Spanish capital.

To make things even more interesting, Andri’s youngest brother Daniel Gudjohnsen who is currently in Barcelona’s U12 team is expected to follow his older brother to Madrid. According to Sport, Eidur would like to keep the family together and made the decision to move his youngest son.

The transfer continues a trend of Real Madrid swooping up some of the hottest young talent in world football. Correspondingly, the whites have added Vinicus Jr, Andriy Lunin, Rodrygo and various gems from ‘La Fabrica’.
