The Season So Far
Despite starting the Premier League reasonably well, Daniel Farke’s men have gone off the boil and have dropped to 19th position in the table. Norwich have not won since their historic 3-2 victory against Manchester City. Finnish striker Teemu Pukki has not been able to continue his impressive start to the season after not being able to find the back of the net in his last four games. This might change this weekend with Manchester United’s lackluster defense coming to town.
Last weekend’s result and performance against Liverpool showed signs of hope for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side. Daniel James and Scott McTominay impressed in midfield, Marcus Rashford finally ended his goal drought and scored against United’s bitter rivals. Although it was a good performance, Solskjaer’s decision to adopt a 3-4-3 formation set them up to fail as Liverpool pressed and ran riot over United throughout that second half, which ended up in them conceding and dropping two valuable points.
Team News
Norwich City will welcome back center back Gen Godfrey to the side after complaining of soreness in his hernia; something he recently had surgery on. The Canaries will still be without Timm Klose, Mario Vrancic, Ralf Fahrmann, Grant Hanley and Christoph Zimmerman.
As for United, Paul Pogba looks to set to sit out yet another week, as does Luke Shaw, Nemanja Matic, Diogo Dalot and Eric Bailly. Axel Tuanzebe, who has impressed in United’s defense and the midfield of late, may miss Sunday’s game after sustaining a hip injury. Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Anthony Martial both look to be near full fitness after completing 60 minutes against Partizan Belgrade in midweek.
Facts and Figures
- Manchester United have won six of their eight Premier League away games against Norwich. Their last two games at Carrow Road have ended in 1-0 wins.
- Norwich could become the first promoted side to win Premier League games against both Manchester clubs since Portsmouth and Wolves did in the 2003-04 season.
- Manchester United’s next goal will see them become the first team in Premier League history to score their 2000th goal in the competition.
Predicted Line-Ups for Norwich City vs Manchester United
Norwich City: Krul; Aarons, Amadou, Godfrey, Lewis; Buendia, Leitner, Tettey, McLean, Cantwell; Pukki.
Manchester United: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Maguire, Lindelof, Young; McTominay, Pereira, Fred; James, Martial, Rashford.
Prediction: Norwich 1-2 Manchester United
Both sides come into this game on the back of some horrible form. Norwich have only scored 1 goal in their last 4 games, yet, United’s defense hasn’t kept a clean sheet in the Premier League since their 1-0 win over Leicester in the middle of September. United will have some confidence going into this game after the Liverpool and Partizan results and will hope to secure a much needed BPL away win.
