Jon Moxley and KENTA Announce Themselves for the G1 Climax

If you ever think that quitting your job and moving on to better and brighter things is impossible, then allow Jon Moxley and KENTA to prove you wrong. During Dominion, a New Japan Pro Wrestling event, both Moxley and KENTA arrive and declare themselves for the annual G1 Climax this summer.

What is the G1 Climax?

NJPW has an annual tournament, since 1974, stemming from origins in the MSG League. Each year, over several weeks, NJPW holds several matches, with two different blocks. The two wrestlers with the most wins in each block face each other in the finals, with the winner earning a trophy and a title shot at the IWGP Heavyweight Champion.

The tournament actually wasn’t called the G1 Climax until 1991 when Masahiro Chono won. Several former champions include Kenny Omega, Shinsuke Nakamura, Hulk Hogan, Antonio Inoki and Hiroshi Tanahashi.

The first round of the G1 Climax will begin on July 6, in Dallas, Texas. This will be the first time a G1 Climax event will take place in the United States. The finals will also air on a Monday, which is different from its usual Sunday date.

Jon Moxley and KENTA

Jon Moxley and KENTA, formerly Dean Ambrose and Hideo Itami respectively, are two of the most recent wrestlers to announce their participation in this year’s G1 Climax.

KENTA made his return to NJPW during Dominion and declared his spot for the tournament. Moxley, after successfully defeating Shota Umino, took to the mic to declare himself for the G1.

New Japan later confirmed that both men would be participating this summer in the G1. Kota Ibushi, Jay White, IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada, Tetsuya Naito, KENTA and Jon Moxley are so far the participants in this year’s event. Over the forth coming weeks, more people will be announced.
