Racist Incident Occurred at Indy Show.
Racism, a problem that is persistent in this country, it is a blight that rears it’s ugly head here and there. And, over the weekend, it reared its head again at the March 2nd SouthEastern Pro Wrestling show in Carbon Hill, Alabama.
First reported by Georgia Wrestling History on Monday, the post was taken from wrestler William Huckaby’s Facebook page; he stated that he would go into full details about the incident on a few podcasts in the coming weeks.
In his original post about the incident, Huckaby, who recently moved from NC to Georgia, described the events in detail; saying that it was a couple who hurled the N-word at him, amongst other things. He started off the post by saying that it would be his last show in SEPW.
It was also his first SEPW show.
Said Huckaby of one of the things said to him:
“At first I ignored them, but when he decided to yell out “that’s right boy, get on your knees like you belong”, I decided that was the final straw.”
Below is the full post on the incident, unedited, with an accompanying picture of his response to the individuals who hurled racist slurs at him.
Huckaby addresses the situation…
Yesterday, Huckaby said that he reached out to the promoter of SEPW; to give him an opportunity to tell his side of the story.
He declined.
Said Huckaby of the invite:
“In regards to the situation in Carbon Hill, Alabama, I will giving a full disclosure on several podcasts this week. Additionally, because I am the host of The Wrestling Nerdcast, I reached out to the promoter of SEPW to give him a chance to tell his side of the story without interruption. He has since turned down said offering. So stay tuned on where you can listen in to hear the full story and the fallout due to my post!”
The fan and his girlfriend were thrown out of the location; they were banned for saying “Why can he call us rednecks but we can’t call that n****r a n****r?”
Huckaby expressed disappointment in the fact that the fan “was able to dictate who worked for SEPW and who doesn’t”. Racism is something that is ugly, and definitely something that sours professional wrestling when it rears its head.
