John Cena Says He Will Not Return to WWE TV During His Next Run
John Cena is a key part of WWE and has been since his early days in 2002. Since WrestleMania 34, after losing to The Undertaker, Cena has been away from both Monday Night RAW and SmackDown Live. According to “Big Match John” himself, his next run will come in 2019 but he will not appear on WWE tv.
“My time is up…”
Sports Illustrated interview with John Cena covered many things in the 16-time world champion’s career. When asked about his future role with the company, Cena said he would not be coming back to WWE tv.
“It’s a giant relay race, and I’m in the phase where I’m handing the stick off. My time is up. Someone else’s time is now.” quote courtesy of Sports Illustrated
Toronto Sun also spoke with Cena with his future in WWE. Cena states that he is still competing in matches in 2019, but none of them will be televised.
“None of these shows are televised. I’m literally just doing it because I want to get back to a place I feel most comfortable and to working with people I can call my family. And I want to have some fun.” quote courtesy of Toronto Sun
This doesn’t exactly sound like a retirement announcement. It just looks like Cena is taking a step back from professional wrestling for a little while. It can be argued it is time for him to take a step back and let the Superstars of tomorrow take over his spot. Now that he is focusing more on his Hollywood career, perhaps now is the time he goes on a more part-time schedule like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
