Two Of The Best To Ever Do It Face Off Sunday Night
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers and Tom Brady of the New England Patriots will face off Sunday night in a heated battle.
After their last-minute loss last week against the Los Angeles Rams, the Packers desperately need a win. The loss pushed them to 3-3-1 and third in the NFC North Division. The Patriots ran past the Buffalo Bills on Monday night. This victory improves their record to 6-2 and puts them two games ahead of the Miami Dolphins in the AFC East.
The Patriots are on a five-game winning streak, while the Packers have yet to win a road game this year. Tight end Rob Gronkowski hasn’t had a touchdown in his last six games, the longest drought of his career. While TE Jimmy Graham is averaging 52.9 receiving yards per game this season, the most since TE Jermichael Finley in 2010.
Aaron Rodgers vs. Tom Brady
Brady and Rodgers combined have 33 seasons under their belt, but have only met once as starters. Rodgers is first on the all time career passer rating list with 103.6 while Brady stands at third with 97.6.
The argument about who is the best of all time will most likely always linger with these two quarterbacks. But it is hard to compare. Do you look at statistics, do you look at rings or do you look overall team performances?
Brady’s Resume
Tom Brady has played for the New England Patriots since 2000. He was their sixth-round draft pick that year. Since then, he has led them to eight Super Bowl appearances and came out victorious in five of them.
Brady has an overall playoff record of 27-10. The Patriots have made the playoffs with Brady as their QB every year except 2002. Brady is in an exclusive club in the NFL; he is one of only four players to have 500 touchdowns. He is also only 36 touchdown passes away from breaking the all-time touchdown record set by QB Peyton Manning.
Rodgers’ Resume
Aaron Rodgers was drafted in 2005, but did not start for the Green Bay Packers until 2008 when Brett Favre “retired.” Rodgers has taken the team to the playoffs every year except his first as a starter. He has made it to three NFC Championship games but only has only made it to one Super Bowl.
Rodgers holds the record for highest passer rating in a season at 122.5. He was also the youngest and fastest ever to reach 300 touchdown passes and had the least interceptions while doing so.
They Can Do It All
Both Rodgers and Brady are the best to do it. They produce fourth-quarter comebacks and game-winning drives at tremendously high calibers. They can stay calm in the pocket and throw with high accuracy as well as with great distance.
Both QBs can make linemen miss and break away from sacks. Rodgers has the ability to run and produce highly accurate throws while on the run, he looks comfortable in and outside of the pocket.
What The Packers Need To Do To Win
Brady will be able to get rid of the ball fast and hit his targets. Mike Pettine and the Packers’ defense need to step it up and play at a high caliber like they did last week against the Rams if they plan on stopping this offense.
Nothing beats the perfect throw though. If Rodgers can produce those money throws, it will be almost impossible to guard Davante Adams, Randall Cobb, and Geronimo Allison.
Week 13, 2014
Fun Fact
Although these teams have only met once as starters, the teams met one other time earlier in their careers. In 2010 the Patriots and Packers met. The Patriots prevailed 31-27. Rodgers was out with a concussion in that game, but the Packers went on to win the Super Bowl that year.
Then in 2014, although the Packers prevailed, the Patriots went on to win the Super Bowl. So in hindsight, whoever loses this game will go on to win the Super Bowl this year.
