Cavs Dismiss Head Coach Tyronn Lue After 0-6 Start

The Cleveland Cavaliers did not have a good start to their NBA season. With only six games into the season, the Cavaliers are 0-6. Ultimately the Cavaliers dismissed Head Coach Tyronn Lue. Meanwhile, the Cavs are set to promote Larry Drew as their interim Coach.

The Cavaliers hold the current worst record in the eastern conference. They were unable to win a home game in any of the three they’ve played so far. They did not have a hard schedule to start, but they were playing without their All-Star LeBron James. James rocked the league during free agency and signed with the Los Angeles Lakers. Kevin Love has missed the last two of their games with a foot injury. Additionally, he may miss more as a precaution for reoccurring foot soreness.

Coach Lue Had A Good Three-Year Run With Cavaliers

Lue was able to coach the Cavs to three straight NBA Finals appearances. Cleveland brought home their first and only NBA Championship in 2016 under Coach Lue during his first year as head coach. The Cavaliers would get two more Finals appearances under Lue but get defeated by the Golden State Warriors in 2017 and 2018.

The Cavs formally announced their decision on Sunday and notified Lue after league sources had been informed. The Cavs were in a managerial meeting with Interim Coach Larry Drew and are hoping to promote him into a long-term coaching position.

Lue has responded in a dignified manner and is receiving support from James, Love and many other NBA players. There have been a lot of changes for the Cavaliers, but it’s surprising that the Cavs are firing Lue now instead of the postseason. It is still early into the season and the Cavs have lost James and Love is dealing with an injury. This would be a difficult obstacle for any NBA Head Coach to overcome and be immediately effective.
