Kansas City Chiefs All Day in Every Way, Blow Out Cincinnati Bengals

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs came out in their second prime-time game ready to roll. More specifically, ready to roll over the Cincinnati Bengals. The game ended 45-10 as the Chiefs showed absolutely no mercy to the Bengals, forcing punt after punt after punt.

The Chiefs have scored 38 points or more in five games this season. That’s tied for the most points through a team’s first seven games since 1970.

Chiefs Uprising

Mahomes threw for four touchdown passes against Cincinnati. He officially passed Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner for most touchdown passes in his first eight NFL games with 22 in total.

The 23 year-old Mahomes now has 300+ passing yards in six straight games. He’s also the youngest player in NFL history with six straight.

Mahomes is red hot so far this season, with the Chiefs’ only loss coming from an all-out brawl against the New England Patriots in Week 6. Despite the loss, the Chiefs still look like a team destined for Super Bowl contention. The second-year QB leads the league in touchdown passes so far this season. Colts quarterback Andrew Luck isn’t far behind, though, with 20 passing touchdowns. Mahomes also leads the league in passing yards with 2,223.

The Bengals’ defense, meanwhile, was unable to tackle running back Kareem Hunt. Hunt recorded 55 yards and a pair of touchdowns through the air, as well as 86 yards and a touchdown on the ground. According to Pro Football Focus, Hunt’s ability to evade Bengals defenders forced six missed tackles in only 15 attempts.

Bengals Downfall?

Andy Dalton was only able to throw for 148 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. Of those 148 passing yards, star receiver A.J. Green accounted for 117. Only two active players have more 100-yard receiving games than Green since he entered the NFL in 2011. It took the all-star receiver less than half the time of his competitors to add his 33rd such game in Week 7.

Meanwhile, many of this season’s breakout performers for the Bengals were kept quiet throughout the blowout. Running back Joe Mixon recorded only 50 yards on 13 carries, while receiver Tyler Boyd managed just three receptions for 27 yards.

Safety Shawn Williams was able to intercept a pass intended for Tyreek Hill and bring it back down the field 21 yards. After re-gaining possession, however, Dalton and the Cincinnati offense were unable to capitalize and forced to punt.

Looking Ahead

The Kansas City Chiefs remain at home in Arrowhead to face their division rival Denver Broncos in Week 8. The Cincinnati Bengals are also at home for Week 8, where they’ll look to re-gain winning form against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
