Marshawn Lynch placed On IR

The Oakland Raiders’ starting running back was placed on IR Monday afternoon due to an core muscle issue. The 32-year-old running back came out of retirement last year to play for his childhood team. Since joining the Raiders, Marshawn Lynch, also know as Beast Mode, has rushed for 10 touchdowns and 1,267 yards in 21 games.

The most talented offensive player on the Raiders averages 4.2 yards per carry. He’s recorded 460 yards from scrimmage along with three touchdowns this season. The five-time Pro Bowl RB suffered the groin injury against the Seattle Seahawks in London.

Lynch signed a two-year $4.45 million contract, with $2.5 million guaranteed. Before the injury, he was set to earn up to $3.75 million in yard and touchdown incentives. Originally, Beast Mode was only expected to be out for a month, but being placed on IR means he is out for at least eight weeks.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport tweeted out that Lynch was spotted in Philadelphia where his previous doctor resides.

Rebuild In The Making

The Raiders have been in the spotlight since the beginning of the season. They’ve traded away top edge rusher Khalil Mack to the Chicago Bears and now fourth-year wide receiver Amari Cooper to the Dallas Cowboys.

The Raiders have not looked good so far this season, boasting a record of 1-5. With this loss they could be digging themselves into a deeper whole then they originally thought. Although, they can possibly lean back on RB Doug Martin and Jalen Richard.

The light ahead for Oakland is growing dim, but head coach Jon Gruden is looking to rebuild the team. Five first-round picks over the next two seasons can almost guarantee a good start to the rebuild process.

There are rumors that the Gruden is also looking to shop quarterback Derek Carr and safety Karl Joseph, which can almost guarantee three or four more first and second-round picks. Lynch will be eligible to return this season, but not until Week 16 against the Denver Broncos.
