Daniel Cormier To Commentate On SmackDown Live?
With the new deal WWE has made with FOX, SmackDown Live will return to Friday nights. Along with the day change, the blue brand will air on FOX Sports instead of the USA Network starting October 4, 2019. With this deal, FOX apparently wants current UFC Heavyweight and Light Heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier to color commentate the show.

This is because FOX wants SmackDown Live to have a “better sports feel” when broadcasting. They feel adding the UFC Champion to the commentary booth will give it that push it needs. To add more fuel to the fire, Cormier has a commentary tryout with WWE soon. This is after he postponed a previous tryout to defend his Heavyweight championship at UFC 230 on November 3rd.

Cormier himself has stated he is a huge wrestling fan. During a media day for UFC 230, Cormier talked about his audition with WWE.
“If I didn’t have this fight, I have been talking to the WWE, because they wanted me to go in and do an audition as a member of the commentary team. That was my private little thing. But because of the fight, I had to push it back. So there might be some DC in WWE sh*t coming.” quote courtesy of UFC and Cultaholic.
When talking about the idea of being on commentary, Cormier is apparently very excited about the idea.
“I like it (WWE commentary). I want to freak out. I want to freak out next to the thing with Vince in my ear saying, ‘Say this, you a**hole!’ Because I heard Vince tells you what to say. I’m like, ‘OK, Vince.’ Don’t be surprised if I’m on TV and a couple times I go, ‘OK, OK, OK, OK.’ And just say it.” quote courtesy of UFC and Cultaholic
With the arrival of Ronda Rousey earlier this year, it isn’t unlikely that Daniel Cormier will join WWE. He is excited about the idea, and is nearing the end of his UFC career. So, with matters as they are, it seems very, very likely that Cormier may join SmackDown Live.
As is the case with the wonderfully wacky world of WWE, nothing is set in stone as of now. But, with the new SmackDown Live deal set to take effect next year, we can only wait in anticipation to see what happens.
