Dallas Cowboys Domesticate Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars looked like domesticated kittens on Sunday afternoon. This was thanks to how well Dallas played on both sides of the football. Dallas showed that when they’re clicking, they can look like champions. However important questions have arisen for both teams.

Was the Jags’ success really a fluke last year? Is Dallas’ defense really that good? There’s plenty of football left in the season for those questions to be answered honestly, but there is no denying the outcome of Sunday’s game.

Jacksonville Jaguars

There were plenty of analysts who believed that Jacksonville would have a much better outing against Dallas after their embarrassing loss against Kansas City last week. That wasn’t the case as they suffered an even worse loss on Sunday by a score of 40-7.

Quarterback Blake Bortles completed 15 of his 26 pass attempts for 149 yards. He had one passing touchdown as well one interception. Bortles was also sacked three times. The team continues to miss their starting running back, Leonard Fournette, as they can’t get anything going in the run game. Fournette’s replacement, T.J. Yeldon, ran the ball eight times for 41 yards.

The more telling story is the fact that Jacksonville’s defense gave up 30 or more points for the second week in a row. They had every motivation to punch the Cowboys in the mouth symbolically, but it was the other way around. All of a sudden, the Jags are in a three-way tie with the Texans and the Titans for first place in the AFC South. This should make for an exciting rest of the season for these three teams.

Dallas Cowboys

One of the league’s leading rushers had another impressive day on the ground. Ezekiel Elliott carried the ball 24 times for 106 yards and one touchdown. QB Dak Prescott ran the ball for an additional 82 yards on 11 carries. The Cowboys were determined to run the ball down the Jags’ throats, and they succeeded.

Prescott’s passing numbers weren’t too impressive, but he did have two TDs. Both of them went to wide receiver Cole Beasley who had nine catches for 101 yards. Dallas’ defense had three total sacks and one interception.

The defense has been the Cowboys’ Achilles heel over the years, but it’s the biggest reason they’ve won games this season. If the Cowboys’ defense can maintain this effort and the offense can stay consistent, the sky is the limit for this team.

Next Week

Both of these teams have huge divisional matchups next Sunday. The Jacksonville will host the Houston Texans while the Dallas Cowboys travel to Washington to take on the Washington Redskins.
