The 49ers And Packers Look To Bounce Back On Monday Night Football

The San Francisco 49ers and Green Bay Packers are both coming off stunning losses last week and are looking to bounce back with a win. The 49ers will travel to Lambeau Field to face the Packers in a Monday Night Football game.

Last Week’s Mistakes

San Francisco struggled as a whole last week. The 49ers had five turnovers, including two interceptions and three forced fumbles. Not to mention their kicker, Ryan Gould, missed a 45-yard field goal. Since the loss of quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, the team has had their problems, and the problems will continue if they don’t get it together.

Mason Crosby is the longtime kicker for Green Bay. He has spent all 12 years of his career there with QB Aaron Rodgers and head coach Mike McCarthy. Before landing in Detroit, Crosby was 10/11 on the season. The Packers all-time leading scorer missed four field goals and an extra point last week, assisting the Packers in their fall to the Lions.

Week 6 Matchup

San Francisco

San Francisco comes in at 1-4, while Green Bay sits second in their division at 2-2-1. In their last head-to-head meeting, the Packers took control in 49ers territory and took home the win 21-10.

With San Fran’s running back, Matt Breida, most likely ruled out for the Monday night game, it’ll put more pressure on QB C.J. Beathard to complete more passes and throw more accurate balls. Breida is one of the league’s top running backs, and he’s a player that is able to carry a team on his back if needed. The 49ers are ranked third in rushing offense right now, even with Breida missing most of the game last week.

Beathard has struggled with his passing abilities since becoming the starter. He has thrown four interceptions. His completion percentage is only around 62 and is 0-2. Yet, in the two games, he has played, he has thrown four touchdown passes all under pressure. Beathard was the 49ers’ 2017 third round pick. Several rookie players are in the spotlight this season, but as a second year QB, he has shown glimpses of potential talent.

Green Bay

The Packers have the sixth-ranked defense in the league right now for yards allowed. With Kevin King and possibly Jaire Alexander returning, and newly signed Bashaud Breeland having a high chance of making his debut, San Fran’s receiving core could be in some trouble.

Rodgers will be going back to wearing his huge brace on his left knee again after irritating it during the game against the Detroit Lions. He will have to heavily rely on running backs Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams in this upcoming game.

If wide receivers Randall Cobb and Geronimo Allison make their return, the 49ers’ defensive secondary will need to step up their game to keep the Packers receiving trio (also including Davante Adams) from making their highly-known downfield catches.
