Jamal Crawford Signs With Phoenix
Free agent and 18-year veteran Jamal Crawford has finally found a home after an abnormally long time unsigned. His new destination is with the young Phoenix Suns hoping to fill a veteran leadership role for the squad. The contract is a veteran minimum for one year worth $2.4 million. Minutes may be limited this season as Phoenix has a lot of younger talent on the team.
The franchise is building around No. 1 overall pick DeAndre Ayton and lights out shooter Devin Booker. Having a player with the experience and professionalism of Crawford should only benefit the team. The Suns are an up and coming team that could use all that guidance. They added other vets this summer in Trevor Ariza and Ryan Anderson. This addition of Crawford is going to help the young studs gain maturity and help them persevere through a long NBA season. Crawford is also reigning winner of the Teammate of the Year Award. An award voted on by the players.
Crawford is coming off a rough year (for him) as a member of the Minnesota Timberwolves. He was averaging 10.3 points, 1.2 rebounds, and 2.3 assists a game in 20 minutes. He was on one of the least used benches in the NBA due to Timberwolves head coach Tom Thibodeau’s reluctance to play his bench. Crawford put up numbers that rivaled his rookie year numbers. Due to the issues he had last season he decided it was better for him to move south to the desert instead of being in the Minnesota cold.
