On Saturday, the Bruins faced the Detriot Red Wings. During said game, David Pastrnak scored three times. This not only gave Pastrnak his second NHL hat trick, but it also gave him 101 career goals.

“It’s been quick and I’m glad that I get to be part of this,” David Pastrnak said. “I’m just having fun. I love the game. I’m not focusing on if I’m going to score a goal or three.”

Pastrnak reached 100 goals in 259 career games, which is the third-fastest in franchise history. Barry Pederson took 187 games and Dit Clapper took 247 games to reach 100 goals.

This was Pastrnak’s second career hat trick. So far, the 22-year-old Czech star has seven goals in only five games this season. In addition to Pastrnak’s three goals, Jake Debrusk scored twice. Charlie McAvoy, Anders Bjork, and Sean Kuraly each scored one goal each for the Boston Bruins. When it came to assists that night, Patrice Bergeron had three, while David Krejci and Brad Marchand had two each. Tuukka Rask had 32 saves in order to help the Bruins win their fourth straight game.

Game Recap

Originally the 3 p.m. game was moved to 7.p.m because of the opener of the American League Championship Series between the Houston Astros and Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.

During the first period, David Pastrnak scored with 51 seconds left in the first period, taking the puck from his own zone, flying by several Detroit Red Wings before getting the puck past Bernier with a wrist shot and scoring his 99th NHL goal. Then early in the second period during a power-play with an assist from Bergeron, bringing up Boston 4-0.  After that, Pastrnak completed his hat trick 2:05 into the same period with help from Brad Marchand on a 2-on-1.

For the first time since 1980, the Detroit Red Wings fell 0-5 during a game. In the first period, the Red Wings lost their defenseman Danny DeKeyser to an undisclosed injury, leaving their teams defense short.

“We regressed tonight for sure. I don’t think there’s any doubt,” Detroit coach Jeff Blashill said. “It was a bad effort. I don’t even know if effort is even the right word. Bad effort, bad execution, unacceptable.”

Both Filip Hronek and Dylan Larkin scored for the Red Wings. Hronek scored 21 seconds into the third period, his first career NHL goal.
