Vancouver Rallied Back to Hand Florida Their Third Straight Loss

The Canucks rallied back to hand the Panthers their third straight loss by a final score of 3-2. Bo Horvat scored the game-winner and Elias Pettersson scored yet again to extend his point streak. However, Pettersson left the game with an injury. With this victory, the Canucks have swept the Florida road trip, beating the Lightning two nights prior.

Goaltender Anders Nilsson made 24 saves that night. He now has two straight wins.

Goaltender James Reimer made 27 saves.

Game Summary

1st Period

The Panthers had three power-play opportunities, in which they finally ditched their five-forward unit. Despite good looks and chances, they could not capitalize.

The Canucks also had two power-play opportunities but were shut down this period.

2nd Period

Goal: FLA 1-0 FLA

Johnathan Huberdeau finally gets on the score sheet with his first of the year. Huberdeau collected his own rebound in front of Anders Nilsson. The goal was assisted by Vincent Trocheck and Denis Malgin.

Goal: VAN 1-1

Elias Pettersson extends his incredible streak with a power play goal. It was his fifth goal in five games and eighth point in the same span. Pettersson shot from the right wing all alone and just ripped it top shelf. Reimer hardly reacted to the shot. The goal was assisted by Brock Boeser and Sven Baertschi.

Goal: FLA 2-1 FLA

Vincent Trocheck gets his first of the year which would’ve been a power play goal if a power play was two seconds longer. Trocheck fired a one-timer fed from Keith Yandle, giving the Cats their second lead of the night. The goal was also assisted by Mike Hoffman, giving him his first point as a Panther.

Goal: VAN 2-2

Antoine Roussel scored on a penalty shot beating Reimer through the five-hole. Bogdan Kiselevich hooked Roussel during a breakaway chance. Despite still getting the shot away, the officials still gave him a penalty shot. As a result, Vancouver tied the game and Roussel received his first goal as a Canuck.

3rd Period

Elias Pettersson would leave the game with concussion-like symptoms. After an impressive deke from Pettersson, Mike Matheson would check him against the boards and then throw him down to the ice. Clearly, Matheson did it out of frustration. There was no penalty on the play but I do expect some sort of hearing. No one wants to see someone so young go down like that.

Goal: VAN 3-2 VAN

Bo Horvat would find the back the back of the net to give the Canucks their first and only lead of the night. Horvat received a pass from Baertschi during a breakout. Reimer had no chance to stop that one. The goal was also assisted by Alexander Edler.

The Panthers would get multiple opportunities to score such as power play time. But they just could not cash in.

Florida has yet to score a power-play goal nor a third-period goal. Florida now obtains a -4 goal differential in the third period.
