Liverpool vs Chelsea Preview
The biggest game of the EFL Cup third round sees Liverpool play host to Chelsea.
Liverpool have won all of their games up till now maintaining a 100 per cent record. They’ve won six in the Premier League and beat Paris Saint-Germain in their opening Champions League tie.
Chelsea dropped the first points of their season against West Ham at the weekend. But they could bounce back in this tie.
Four of the last encounters at this ground have resulted in draws.
Team News:
Virgil van Dijk is likely to be left out after getting a bruised rib against Southampton. Alex Oxlade Chamberlain remains sidelined. The rest of the Liverpool squad is available for selection.
The Blues are expected to rotate the starting 11. Pedro and Antonio Rudiger are particularly likely to be rested as they struggle with minor injuries.
Overview:
It seems as though this match will be low key. Ahead of the main event with either side not wanting to give anything away.
Liverpool have nine clean sheets in their last nine home games. Eden Hazard is unlikely to feature here, the Blues may have to instead rely on a defense that conceded just once in their two encounters with Liverpool last campaign.
Predictions:
With both teams starting the season in excellent form. It looks like it’s going to be a cagey affair under the floodlights at Anfield.
