Cardiff City vs Manchester City Preview
Manchester City is looking to bounce back to their winning ways against Cardiff City after a horrific performance against Lyon in their 2018/19 UEFA Champions League debut.
City travels to Cardiff City Stadium. Cardiff, however, have yet to win in the league this season. Nevertheless, City has witness their physicality since they last met in January for FA Cup.
Team News:
Franchman Benjamin Mendy will miss the game with a foot injury. Pep Guardiola confirmed his absence during Friday’s press conference. In addition. Fabian Delp will likely start again in his place. This, of course, after his bad performance against Lyon. Additionally, Sergio Aguero is fit alongside Leroy Sané.
Guardiola will probably bench David Silva and Gabriel Jesus after a far from stellar performance on Wednesday. He will also move Bernardo Silva to his midfield duties where he has performed better this season.
Lastly for City, Nicolas Otamendi will take John Stones’ place in the starting lineup.
For Cardiff, midfielder Aron Gunnarsson is yet to be fit for action with a knee injury. The Iceland international has not played a single minute this season for Cardiff. In addition, Harry Arter is set for a return after illness.
Prediction:
City has dominated newly-promoted teams with a winning record of 23 against one in their last 31 meetings. Their last defeat came five years ago against newly promoted Burnley. Additionally, this match will see some goal activity. In their last ten matchups, City and Cardiff have averaged 3.5 goals per game.
