WWE Intercontinental Champion Randy Orton & A.J. Styles vs. WWE United States Champion Samoa Joe & The Miz (with Maryse)
Objective: Win with Samoa Joe & The Miz
The Miztourage enter the ring after the match and hoist The Miz on their shoulders, celebrating. Samoa Joe picks AJ up and gloats in his face. Joe claims that AJ will never get his belt and that he is fighting an uphill battle beyond his control. Joe headbutts AJ, as Miz hits Orton with a Skull Crushing Finale. The two are booed loudly by the fans, as Cole reveals that we are just only a few days away from seeing everyone in action at Payback this Sunday!
Roman Reigns is in his locker room getting ready for his match later against Brock Lesnar. WWE Universal Champion Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose enter. They say they’ve got Roman’s back tonight, but Roman reveals he wants to slay the beast on his own. He asks the two not to come to ringside tonight, which Ambrose and Rollins respect.
Triple H enters laughing, overhearing their conversation. He says it’s cute that the trio even thinks the decision to be at ringside is theirs. Triple H tells the three as talented as they are, they’ve pissed off an unstoppable force within the company. Hunter says normally he’d come here to cut a deal with the trio like old times. He mentions how the four of them once made one of the best wrestlers ever to come out of Chicago, quit. Hunter says the past is just that, and now he has made other plans without them. Hunter walks off as the Shield look at each other wondering what Triple H’s plan is.
NORMAL MATCH
Bayley vs. Summer Rae (with WWE Raw Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss)
Objective: Be Alexa Bliss and make sure Summer Rae wins
After Bliss costs Bayley the match, Summer Rae attacks from behind. Alexa busts out a kendo stick from under the ring and starts hitting Bayley repeatedly with it. Sasha Banks comes out to make the save for Bayley, knocking Summer out of the ring while Bliss runs off with her championship belt. Bliss tells Sasha that the only reason she came to save her friend was that Bliss is the champion, and Banks only wants to be in the championship picture. Banks calls Bliss a witch and that she will put her in the Bank Statement if she tries to screw over her friend Bayley at Payback. Bliss tells Banks she is in over her head, and that the smart thing to do would be to stay out of her business. Bayley hits a Bayley-to-Belly onto Summer Rae and stares down her Payback opponent.
NORMAL TAG TEAM MATCH
Big Boss Man ’99 & Kevin Owens vs. The Hype Bros
Objective: Win with Big Boss Man & Owens
Owens grabs the microphone after the match and begins to complain about being stuck in the WWE Tag Team Championship picture instead of the main event. He admits that Dolph has served his role well for Triple H, but claims he will get back his respect once he takes the WWE Raw Tag Team Championship away from The New Day. He tells the New Day that the dancing and clapping ends on Sunday when he and his new enforcer Big Boss Man destroy their stupid fairy tale.
Raw Tag Team Champion The New Day comes out on stage and say they’re not worried about Boss Man or Owens winning Sunday. The New Day say they have teamed with Triple H & Stephanie in the past, claiming Owens is late to the party. They know exactly what to expect at Payback. The New Day brings up the question to Kevin Owens though, what happens to him in the eyes of Triple H if he fails to deliver a second straight time? Owens looks a bit concerned at their words, as New Day lead a ‘New Day Rocks’ chant.
Forming An Alliance
John Cena is backstage walking around when he finds Shane McMahon. Cena says he’s been looking everywhere for him and wants to know his thoughts on what Triple H & Stephanie are up to? Shane says he doesn’t know but is investigating. Cena wants details, but Shane says it’s between him and the Board of Directors. He asks how he can trust Shane, so Shane responds by saying that his full interest is the WWE. Cena tells Shane he still is a McMahon, to which Shane admits. Shane says his three children are also McMahons, and he wants his kids to be able to grow up enjoying the business he spent his entire life in – something they can be proud of their father for. Cena says he trusts Shane, but that they need to work together. Shane suggests they start by figuring out how and why Big Boss Man is around, to which Cena agrees with.
NORMAL MATCH
Curt Hawkins vs. Kane
Objective: Win with Kane
After the match, the lights go out and The Wyatt Family appear on the big screen. Bray riddles more about the fun he is having by tormenting Kane. Wyatt knows it eats Kane up inside every day that he doesn’t know where his brother is. Bray asks Kane if he’s more worried about where his brother is, or why they took out the Deadman, to begin with?
Bray laughs and claims the devil is truly a friend of the WWE, but everyone is too blind to see the truth. He only wants what’s best, Bray proclaims. Bray tells Kane he is actually disappointed in his oblivion, claiming the devil’s favorite demon doesn’t know the devil well at all. He laughs some more and tells Kane that HE is now the devil’s favorite demon, and has The Undertaker as his proven trophy of success. Continuing his laugh, Bray tells Kane that on Sunday he is entering his own demise and should instead… RUN!
Meanwhile…
WWE Champion Dolph Ziggler talks with Triple H and Stephanie in the parking garage. A limo pulls up and Dolph is about to get inside, but a child with an adult approach. They say they’re with the Make-A-Wish Foundation and would like to get Dolph’s autograph. Dolph sneers at them before hopping in the limo and taking off. Triple H & Stephanie apologize for Ziggler’s attitude and tell the two that they will send them memorabilia in the mail with autographs from all the superstars, along with two tickets to Payback.
The child and adult, seemingly happy, walk off as Stephanie is worried Dolph is perhaps too checked out mentally? Triple H says it doesn’t matter because Dolph does what they say and he can back it up in the ring which is really all that matters. Stephanie somewhat agrees but doesn’t think Triple H understands how important PR Relations are while they’re in charge. Stephanie says that sending Big Boss Man out with Kevin at Wrestlemania, and the fact Boss Man is still around, shows Triple H’s disregard for her concerns. Triple H says that if they achieve what they want, then all the bad publicity in the world won’t stop them. Stephanie agrees but wishes Hunter to be more mindful of the big picture.
Hounds Down
Before the match, the backstage footage is shown of both Universal Champion Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose laid out. Officials check on the two superstars as Paul Heyman appears in front of the camera, along with Brock Lesnar. Paul tells Roman that his lack of leadership led to this moment, where his friends are beaten to a pulp. He warns Roman that at Payback the beast will take back his Universal Championship for good as he now has the support of both Triple H and Stephanie McMahon. Heyman reveals that since he was put through the trainer’s table, he decided to cut a deal with the people in charge.

After the match, Lesnar is about to put Reigns through the announcer’s table. Rollins and Ambrose hobble down the ramp to save their friend. Lesnar and Heyman retreat, leaving up the ramp with all smiles while Ambrose and Rollins tend to Reigns.
Smackdown Live
Triple H and wife Stephanie head to the ring to begin the show. They first promote the upcoming WWE Network event, Payback, that will be this coming Sunday. Triple H also takes the time to promote his minor-league wrestling system, NXT, saying tickets to shows are available for purchase. Hunter claims the upcoming WWE Network event, NXT TakeOver, is going to breed a whole new generation of superstars the fans will enjoy. He says he doesn’t know why people think he has alternate motives when he was hired to do what he loves, and that’s to make the business of wrestling better.
John Cena interrupts, and asks better for who? The fans? Or himself? Stephanie claims John is more selfish than anyone, only pretending to care because he lost his championship. John reveals that he wouldn’t be concerned with them running the show, if there wasn’t a dead guy walking the hallways. He also mentions the ongoing internal investigation on the two. Stephanie laughs and tells John The Undertaker must be the dead man he’s referring to.
The lights suddenly go out and The Wyatt Family appears on the big screen. Bray begins laughing hysterically, then warns John that he’s not the bright hero everyone thinks he is. Courageous? Maybe, but not bright at all. Bray tells John he is searching for an answer that must be left alone, or everyone he loves will suffer. Bray claims that once he disposes of the demon Kane at Payback, he may have to turn his family’s attention to someone like John. Triple H asks Bray to calm down and schedules Bray to face Cena tonight. Bray laughs as the picture on the screen goes away and Cena stares at Triple H with distrust.
NORMAL MATCH
Becky Lynch vs. Smackdown Women’s Champion Natalya
Objective: Win with Becky Lynch
Becky Lynch wins the match clean, so Natalya hits her in the knee with a chair. Natalya puts Becky into the Sharpshooter, until Naomi runs down to make the save.
John Cena is in his locker room when Shane McMahon walks in. Shane asks if he really wants to fight Bray Wyatt days before his WWE Championship rematch? John says if it helps him get answers then he has to. Shane wonders why Bray Wyatt would care whether or not John digs into Triple H’s problems. Shane thinks Kane is holding back information, as he approached him about Wyatt’s involvement. A voice behind Shane says ‘Perhaps you should hire some real detectives.’
Shane turns around and it’s the Fashion Police (Tyler Breeze & Fandango). The Fashion Police introduce themselves, offering to work the case John & Shane are trying to crack. John says this is grown up work and not for children, but Shane likes the idea of having help. He decides to let the Fashion Police in. Shane offers to fill the two in on everything, but Tyler Breeze interrupts saying that Bray only threatened John when he brought up the Big Boss Man issue. Fandango says that Bray and Big Boss Man must be connected in some way. Cena admits that actually makes a lot of sense, so Shane sends the two away to continue helping with the investigation. Shane and Cena look at each other surprised that Breeze & Fandango were so detailed knowledge of the situation.
NORMAL TAG TEAM MATCH
WWE Smackdown Tag Team Champion Gallows & Anderson vs. WWE Raw Tag Team Champion The New Day
Objective: Win with The New Day
The New Day win the match as Kevin Owens’ music hits. He comes out on stage with Big Boss Man and begins to say that The New Day isn’t even worthy of being in the same ring as two legends like Boss Man and himself. Owens says it’s a disgrace he’s been demoted to the tag team division, but Triple H needs a few more pieces to a bigger puzzle. New Day laugh at Owens, claiming he is arrogant and oblivious. Kofi Kingston says that he has been around the business longer than anyone out there right now and that they actually know the bigger picture that Kevin doesn’t know.
Kofi asks Kevin if he’s ever wondered why or how Big Boss Man is standing next to him at this moment in time? Kingston tells Kevin that he is a very talented wrestler and could even lead the next generation of superstars. Kofi also tells Kevin that he’s a close-minded jackass who is playing the role of a pawn. Kingston tells Kevin he should be thinking like a survivor. New Day clap around the ring as Owens, with concern, thinks about Kofi’s bitter harsh words.
Renee Young interviews United States Champion Samoa Joe backstage. Before Renee can ask a question, Joe says that he doesn’t respect AJ Styles. The two have fought all over the world, but never in the unique world of the WWE. Joe warns AJ that he doesn’t want to go to war with him because AJ will be on the losing side of history if he does. Joe walks off.
NORMAL MATCH
John Cena vs. Bray Wyatt (with Luke Harper, Erick Rowan & Braun Strowman)
Objective: Win with John Cena via disqualification
The Wyatt Family interferes in the match and begin attacking John Cena. The ring post goes up in flames, but Kane doesn’t appear from the stage. A camera backstage shows that Kane is stuck in between the ground and a forklift, revealing that WWE Champion Dolph Ziggler is sitting in the forklift seat.
The Wyatt’s continue to destroy John Cena in the ring as Dolph slowly makes his way down to the ring. Dolph, while he unbuttons his suit, casually gets into the ring and tells The Wyatt Family to pick John up. They do, and Dolph hits him with a brutal Zig Zag. Dolph then gloats with the belt in Cena’s face, screaming at him. Ziggler turns around with Bray smiling at Dolph, but he’s looking at the WWE Championship. Dolph pulls the belt away from Bray and quickly exits the ring, leaving through the crowd. Bray begins laughing before the lights go off and on with the Wyatt Family disappearing.
NXT Approaches
Triple H gets off a phone call in his office. He tells his wife that NXT TakeOver is going to be a huge success and that investors are interested to see some of the young talents he has developed. He has been pushing his view of what the future will look like and believes NXT TakeOver needs to go perfectly for investors to take him seriously.
Shane McMahon barges into the office and demands to know what’s going on? He knows Triple H and Stephanie set the prior matchup for Cena to get beaten down. Stephanie tells Shane that John shouldn’t have alienated the Wyatt’s or their WWE Champion. Shane reveals that once he gets to the bottom of this, Triple H & Stephanie will be finished in the WWE. Shane signals the Fashion Police to leave, as Tyler Breeze and Fandango (posed as tree plants in the office) leave with Shane. Triple H and Stephanie ask each other if they knew the Fashion Police was in there? They both say they didn’t know, but Triple H shrugs it off calling them idiots.
NORMAL MATCH – WWE Cruiserweight Championship
(C) Neville vs. Akira Tozawa (with Titus O’Neil & Apollo Crews)

Titus O’Neil interferes, unknowingly to Tozawa, to help Akira win the Cruiserweight Championship. Neville, furious, charges Titus but is cut off by an Apollo Crews dropkick. He asks Tozawa how it feels to be champion? Before he can answer, Titus tells Tozawa he got him the Cruiserweight Championship match and asks if he’ll finally sign with the Titus World Wide Brand? Apollo hands Tozawa contract papers and a pen, smiling. Tozawa looks at the contract, then the belt. He hugs Titus, thanking him, and signs the contract.
