Athletic Club vs Real Madrid Preview
Bilbao, Spain – San Mamés will host another edition of Athletic Club against Real Madrid. Nevertheless, this match is the beginning of a string of matches that will test Julen Lopetegui’s side.
Since Cristiano Ronaldo left for Italian side Juventus this past summer, many believe Los Blancos would be dealing with a lack of goal chances. With three-straight wins in their pockets, they come to Bilbao with the hopes of adding steam their streak.
Athletic Club, however, are seventh in the standings after a win over Leganes and drawing 2-2 against Huesca.
Nevertheless, these two clubs have a lot of history behind them. Real Madrid will be in a hostile environment for the majority of the match.
Performers:
For Madrid, the absence of Ronaldo has benefited Frenchman Karim Benzema. He has been able to stick all the balls behind the net. However, Wales international Gareth Bale has also taken the opportunity to lead this new Madrid team under Lopetegui. In addition, Isco and Marco Asensio have risen to the occasion and are making the best out of this opportunity.
Predictions:
Despite being without competition for the last couple weeks, Athletic will give Real Madrid the best as most of their players are returning from international break. However, Real Madrid is Real Madrid and will not back down.
