Randy Lee resigns as Ottawa’s Assistant GM During His Suspension
So far, the Ottawa Senators have had a rough offseason. From trading away Mike Hoffman, one of their stars, to looking to trade their captain, who knows what next? However, a huge bomb just dropped in the Canadian capital on Tuesday. The Senators assistant General Manager, Randy Lee announced he is resigning from the position. This announcement comes after Lee was suspended by the Senators; due to his recent sexual harassment charges. Lee was accused of rubbing the shoulders of a 19-year old male shuttle driver; all while making inappropriate comments in regards to Lee’s private parts, during his time in Buffalo. It is possible that Lee saw himself getting fired in the near future; resigning only to save the Senators management the trouble.
Prior to Resigning
Before resigning, Lee finished his 23rd season with the Ottawa Senators. This was only his fifth as an assistant general manager. In addition, he would command the role of the Senators AHL affiliate in Binghamton. Lee oversaw player development for one year. He worked closely with the current Senators squad and watched the development of prospects. This also included prospects in the AHL, college, junior leagues and European leagues. Additionally, he spent five seasons dual wielding roles as the conditioning coach and the video coach. Before that gig, Lee spent two seasons as a video coach.
Randy Lee was also looking over players in the ECHL, doing tasks such as negotiating entry-level contracts and managing player development. Randy Lee currently lives in Ottawa with his three kids.
Due to his actions in Buffalo during this past spring, Randy Lee may have thrown away the job of a lifetime. While it is unconfirmed that the allegations against Lee are the reason why he resigned, the suspension could have been potential foreshadowing to his inevitable firing. Additionally, the Senators continue to have an abysmal off season, and there appears to be no end in sight.
