Hide Your Quarterbacks, Jalen Ramsey is Criticizing Everyone
Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey has come under fire for his comments in an interview with GQ. In the interview, Ramsey presented his various critiques on over 15 quarterbacks in the NFL. Ramsey began taking heat for his comments almost immediately upon the article’s publishing.
His comments ranged from calling Buffalo Bills’ first rounder Josh Allen “trash,” to predicting Deshaun Watson would be the NFL’s MVP in the next five years. Unless this is a horribly awesome audition for the WWE, Jalen Ramsey’s recent comments regarding various NFL quarterbacks are severely misplaced.
The initial focus of the interview is unclear; however, the tone Ramsey set is painfully ironic considering his recent tweets. Maybe Jalen skimmed over Chapter 10, “When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but whoever restrains his lips is prudent,” of Proverbs 10:19.
“Whoever heeds discipline shows the way to life, but whoever ignores correction leads others astray.”

Jalen Ramsey’s Takes on NFL Quarterbacks
It should be no surprise that Jalen had the most to say about QBs he finds subpar. His first target was Josh Allen: “I think [Buffalo Bills draft pick Josh] Allen is trash. I don’t care what nobody say. He’s trash. And it’s gonna show too… We play them this year, and I’m excited as hell. I hope he’s their starting quarterback.” Ramsey’s evidence for this claim: Allen played for the University of Wyoming and “never beat a big school.”
Jalen then began to praise Lamar Jackson, the Baltimore Ravens’ second round pick, stating: “I think he’s gonna do a good job.” Without second thought, he then let us know: “Flacco sucks.” His evidence? He played against Joe Flacco, the current QB of the Baltimore Ravens, for two consecutive years now; his argument contained no further points.
Ramsey continued to hurl insults, both directly and indirectly. Ben Rothlisberger, Pittsburgh Steelers QB, is “decent at best”, NY Giants’ QB Eli Manning didn’t deserve much praise in the CB’s mind (“I wouldn’t say he is good”), and Dak Prescott (QB of the Dallas Cowboys) is “alright” while attributing Ezekiel Elliot as the one running the team. Matt Ryan is “overrated” to Ramsey and his opinion of Andrew Luck? “I don’t really think he is that good.”
The full body of Jalen Ramsey’s comments, as evidenced by his praise for Lamar Jackson, was not entirely negative. Ramsey did praise several quarterbacks, including Carson Wentz, Russell Wilson, and teammate Blake Bortles.
Thou That Has a Ring, Cast the First Stone
Jalen Ramsey, it would behoove you to take some advice from Mr. Kendrick Lamar and be humble. May I remind you that Eli Manning, Ben Rothlisberger, and Joe Flacco all have something you do not? A Super Bowl ring. Matt Ryan is a former league MVP. Dak Prescott was NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Jalen Ramsey’s critiques are not only uncalled for, but also inappropriate at best and his delivery is a bit cowardly. If he wants to prove that he’s more talented than the peers he critiqued, he needs to prove it on the field — not in a magazine. While I respect his right to free speech, his use of it has verged on embarrassing.
In Summation…
Jalen Ramsey is a fierce competitor who wants to win and that is something we can all admire. His tangible ambition for a Super Bowl will remain as just that: an ambition. That is, if his focus doesn’t shift to the practice field rather than middle school burn book-style scouting reports of his peers. It’s yet to be seen how his teammates feel about the comments. His market value, however, just took a hit.
It’s safe to say most NFL fans will be rooting for the aforementioned quarterbacks when taking on Jacksonville this season.
