Hurricanes Utilize Social Media to Decide a New Goal Horn Song

Hurricanes Using Social Media During Their Search

Over the past few years, teams have been delivering entertainment not only on the ice but also on social media. From the NHL 17 cover vote to the comic relief of the Vegas Golden Knights twitter handle.

Bring in now, the Hurricanes. They’ve decided to possibly move on from their current goal song to one that the fans agree on. They decided to try and keep the fans watching after a less than successful season, where attendance was very low.

The Hurricanes have had a major social media presence, responding to fans about any possible selections, trying to keep fans interested.

In addition to making roster moves in order to draw more interest from the fans, they’re now making moves on social media to draw up excitement.

Song options

Last year, after the sound of Ric Flair’s ‘woo’, it was Avicii’s ‘The Nights’ you would hear. The Hurricanes have placed this along with 7 other songs into a fan vote here: https://www.nhl.com/hurricanes/fans/goal-song-fan-vote

Those 7 other songs include:

  1. Brazz Bonanza (Techno Remix)
  2. Jump Around (House of Pain)
  3. Lithium (Nirvana)
  4. Party Up (DMX)
  5. Raise Up (Petey Pablo)
  6. Rock and Roll (Led Zeppelin)
  7. Uprising (Muse)

The polling ended last night August 13th and the results will be revealed later in the off-season.

Personal Opinion

If you had to ask me what I think of this, my best pick would certainly be Party Up. When you hear a goal scored, you want to get crazy and I believe that is a perfect song to lose your mind to

The Effects

This is something creative and new that no other team has attempted to do yet. I would not be surprised if more teams went in this direction given how goal horns are intended to link the team with the fans.
