Daniel Bryan vs The Miz is More Than Just a Match

The Rock vs. Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania X8. Triple H vs. Randy Orton at WrestleMania 25. Eddie Guerrero vs. Brock Lesnar at No Way Out 2004. What is it that sets these matches apart from any other? The feel that this was more than “just a throw-away wrestling match.” The build-up and sheer atmosphere of the two competitors brought it to a whole new level, whether it was icon vs. icon. Finally getting your hands on the man who assaulted your family. Or perhaps getting the chance to immortalize yourself by finally winning the coveted WWE Championship. When two wrestlers can stand across from each other and you can feel the raw emotion coming off of both competitors, then you know you have something special. Daniel Bryan vs. The Miz is exactly like these classics.

Daniel Bryan vs. The Miz: Eight Years in the Making

NXT 2010

Daniel Bryan vs. The Miz is eight years in the making. Ever since The Miz was questionably assigned as Daniel Bryan’s pro in the original NXT, things had been far from friendly between the two. Fans had criticized The Miz for having the audacity to think he has the same ring skill as the veteran Daniel Bryan. Fans demanded that Bryan get a new pro, but Miz made sure to remind everyone just how awesome he thought he was. He told Daniel that he should be honored that he gets to call The Miz his pro. Daniel Bryan shot back that Miz didn’t have the same drive and determination he had. Since that day, it has been nothing but back and forth confrontation after confrontation.

Just Quit

When Daniel Bryan was forced to retire due to complications with concussions, many fans were saddened to see such a promising Superstar hang up his boots. Fortune would be on Bryan’s side, because he was named SmackDown Live general manager before the 2016 brand extension. During an episode of the now debunked WWE Network special, Talking Smack, tensions had reached an all-new high. Daniel Bryan referred to The Miz’s in ring style as “too safe” and “cowardly” and didn’t bring anything exciting to SmackDown Live. The Miz fired back by calling Bryan a coward for choosing to retire instead of returning to the ring. The Miz chastised Daniel for not continuing his dream by quitting WWE and “going back to the bingo halls” he used to wrestle in. Daniel Bryan stormed from the set while being chased by more insults from his former NXT pro.

The Comeback

Daniel Bryan was cleared to compete shortly before WrestleMania 34. Immediately,  fans had began speculating when Daniel Bryan vs. The Miz would finally happen on the grand stage it deserved. Daniel, along with Shane McMahon, was successful in his return match at WrestleMania 34 against Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. Daniel Bryan was back and ready to fight whoever stepped in his way.

Finally…

Costing Daniel Bryan a shot at the WWE Championship. Telling The Miz he’s ready to punch him in the face. Trash talk. Shoot promos. Stunt babies. The question was not if… But when? This last week on SmackDown Live, The Miz officially announced his match with Daniel Bryan will be at SummerSlam. Finally, after years and years of predictions and rumors and retirements and emotions running so high they can touch the moon… The Miz vs. Daniel Bryan is going to happen at SummerSlam.

Stealing the Show

Daniel Bryan vs. The Miz is a rivalry full of emotional build up that has been fermenting for almost a decade. It doesn’t revolve around who the next face of the company is. It doesn’t need a championship. This feud is built solely around the hate these two Superstars feel for each other. No match on the show will come close to matching the emotion, in-ring skill, or story telling these two have been able to do for the last eight years. Regardless of where this match lands on the card, Daniel Bryan and Miz will steal the show at SummerSlam.
