NJPW Star Hiromu Takahashi Suffers Broken Neck

In the wrestling business, injuries are very common. Just like in any other case, some injuries are worse than others. For example, NJPW star Hiromu Takahashi suffered an extremely serious injury in his last title defense.

During New Japan Pro Wrestling’s G1 Special in San Francisco last weekend, Takahashi suffered a broken neck defending his IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship against Dragon Lee. The injury occurred when Lee attempted a Phoenix Plex on Takahashi. However, the move saw Takahashi take a bad fall directly on his head. Takahashi would still finish the match.

After the match, Takahashi was taken to the hospital after he reportedly collapsed after the match. There is no word on the current condition of Takahashi but hopefully, he’s doing better and will be on his way back soon.

Reaction

That was a really scary looking bump. The entire crowd in San Francisco and everyone watching at home cringed when they saw how he landed. The fact that he finished the match is nothing short of amazing.

There’s always a risk of something like this happening in the ring, fortunately, it doesn’t happen very often, but when it does, it really scares fans of the business. There’s no way to take the danger out of wrestling like there is in other sports. While some styles are higher risks than others, every wrestler may not walk out the same way they went in.

In this case specifically, both competitors are high flyers. This makes the matches more dynamic but also riskier. Furthermore, the botches can prove to be more costly. This was the case for Hiromu Takahashi. Lee attempted a high-risk move that backfired horribly.

Hopefully, Hiromu Takahashi’s recovery is fast and he can return to the ring soon!
