Karl Anthony Towns Looking Long-term With Wolves
The Minnesota Timberwolves are making crucial steps for their future by looking to give all star Karl Anthony Towns a max extension. Towns still has one year left on his rookie contract and is to earn $7.8 million next year. Owner Glenn Taylor has made it known that Karl Anthony Towns is part of the franchises long-term future.
The first overall pick from the 2015 draft has shown his worth to the franchise since day one. This year was Karl Anthony-Towns first year selected to the all star game. Towns was averaging 21 points, 12 reb, and 1.4 blocks, while playing all 82 games this season. He is one of the top young hybrid bigs that include Embiid and Porzyngis, that are taking over the league. Every year Towns has gotten better in almost every offensively category, but does lack attentiveness at times and complains to the refs too much. Towns is still progressing as a post defender, but is a very solid on ball defender in a switch situation in the pick and roll.
The Wolves this summer have been having a dramatic summer, for their standards. Jimmy Butler been rumored to be leaving next summer in free agency. Tension between owner Glenn Taylor and coach/president of operations Tom Thibodeau, and numerous trade scenarios floating around. The team is all in agreement though that they need to lock down Karl Anthony Towns as soon as possible. With Towns’ former college teammate and Phoenix Suns Devin Booker just recently getting a max contract extension, the Wolves are looking to do the same with their star.
