Barcelona Transfer News: Barcelona Announce Clement Lenglet Transfer Signing
Barcelona, Spain – Barcelona have signed Clement Lenglet from Sevilla after activating the €35.9m release clause. In addition, the 23-year-old has signed a five-year deal with the Catalan club that includes a €300m release clause.
This is the second signing after the signing of Arthur Melo on Wednesday. The Catalans are making space for several signings after the departure of Andres Iniesta and Paulinho. There are several rumors that put World Cup sensation Yerry Mina out on loan as he is not of the liking of manager Ernesto Valverde. Also, it is known that Aleix Vidal is also looking to exit the club for more playing time this summer. A possible destination for him will be Sevilla. Perhaps the announcement of his transfer will be announced this week.
Nevertheless, he will be joining a group of experience defenders alongside Gerard Pique, Samuel Umtiti and Thomas Vermaelen.
Clement Lenglet Transfer
Sevilla director of football, Joaquin Caparros, spoke to Onda Cero’s El Transitor’ radio to confirm the signing.
“It looks that way, yes. We haven’t had official confirmation from the league but it appears like it’ll happen. We didn’t want to sell Lenglet and they’re going to pay his buyout clause. What we wanted was for him to sign a new contract here but when a powerful club makes an offer for someone, there’s always a chance they could leave.”
Lenglet was sought out by several clubs in Europe, among them Manchester United. The French defender had a decent season with Sevilla since his arrival from Ligue 1 side Nancy in January 2017.
Despite Sevilla’s intentions to renew him, the player rejected any offers. His wish was to make a move to a bigger club this season.
