With LeBron James going to the Los Angeles Lakers, the Cleveland Cavaliers have to pick up the pieces. The Cavaliers have to decide which direction they want to go. Obviously, the Eastern Conference isn’t as strong as the Western Conference is, but a team that isn’t too good possibly can be in 7th or 8th place in the east. So with those things in mind, they shouldn’t be thinking about the playoffs next season. Here’s a few reasons why they should tank next season:
First things first, the Cavaliers have to decide on what to do with their all star power forward Kevin Love. Love has had an up and down career in a Cavaliers uniform. He’s battled injuries and at times inconsistent play, but when healthy, is still pretty good. They’re better off trading him because he’s not likely going to be in their future plans. Plus, a change of scenery is what he needs, as he looks to increase his value around the league again.
According to Sam Amico, the Cavaliers are looking to move guards George Hill and Kyle Korver. Hill didn’t have the impact they hoped he would have for them. As for Korver, he’s still a deadly three point shooter, but is a liability defensively. It’s not a surprise that they’re now open to moving basically anyone on their roster. They’re deep in the luxury tax and shedding salary is a huge must.
The Cavaliers owe the Atlanta Hawks their 2019 first round pick, but it’s top ten protected. So if they have one of the league’s top ten worst records next season, they’ll likely keep the pick. That has to be their goal next season to get the rebuild going smoothly. It’s time for the Cavaliers and their fans to embrace the tank.
