Derrick Favors Favoring Money Instead Of Ring Chasing

Favors has turned away from the team hopping trend this summer. He has opted to sign a two-year, $36 million deal to stay with the Utah Jazz. The second year of Favors contract though is non-guaranteed.

Favors has bounced back from an injury plagued 2017 campaign with only 50 games under his belt. He played in 77 games in this past season. Last season, he was averaging 12.3 points and 7.2 rebounds per game while teaming up down low with this season’s DPOY Rudy Gobert

It’s not a huge move move considering all of the superstar movement, but it is a move that fits where the Jazz are going. With Donovan Mitchell taking the helm in Utah as their unquestioned franchise player, Favors can focus on offensive rebounding and running the pick and roll with passing extraordinaire Ricky Rubio.

What’s Next for the Jazz?

With this signing and the re-signing of Dante Exum, it looks like they are building from within instead of going out trading everyone. Jazz Head Coach Quinn Snyder is trying to follow the blueprint Gregg Popovich and the San Antonio have perfected. They’re patient with their young talent and believe strongly in continuity.
