Downtown Cleveland Takes LeBron James Banner Down

The 2018 NBA free agency has more than delivered this summer. LeBron James will leave the city of Cleveland once again and take his talents to the Los Angeles. James’ decision means the LeBron James banner in downtown Cleveland will be taken down again.

Some of you might need a fresher about the banner’s history. The first LeBron James banner was revealed in 2005 as an advertisement for Nike’s “We Are All Witnesses” campaign. Cleveland Cavaliers fans adopted the banner as a symbol for Cleveland basketball.

It’s Time To Move On From The King

Cavaliers fans had a feeling it was going to happen. James delivered on his promise to bring a championship to northeast Ohio in 2016. He tried his absolute best to win more, but it wasn’t meant to be.

It’s been coming for a while now. Cleveland will need to focus on starting over again and move on from the James era. It won’t be simple because James is the best player in the world and starting over is a tough task.

Cleveland Fans Are More Understanding This Time

When James decided to take his talents to South Beach, the Cleveland faithful lost it. It was understandable because James had not delivered on his promise back in 2010. Things are different this time around, and his departure doesn’t sting as much as it did eight years ago.

Cavaliers fans should be looking ahead instead of looking back. The focus is now on what’s left of this roster and what Dan Gilbert needs to do. He still has players on the roster that can help the team compete in a weak Eastern conference.

There’s no doubt that the loss of King James is a massive loss, but it’s not the end. It is the start of a new era of Cleveland basketball.
