Former Tough Enough Contestant Passes Away
Former WWE Tough Enough contestant, Matt Cappotelli, passed away on Friday June 29th in his home alongside his wife. His wife broke the news around 3:30 AM.
Matt was only 38 years old. Cappotelli died exactly one year after having surgery to remove a tumor. Also at that time, he found that he had Glioblastoma (an aggressive type of cancer, that can occur in the brain or spinal cord).
Who was Matt Cappotelli?
Cappotelli was a co-winner of WWE Tough Enough 3. The show was produced by both WWE and MTV. Additionally, he was a student at Western Michigan University. Matt was quickly favored by the WWE to win the reality competition. He then went on to train at Ohio Valley Wrestling, which was the development center for WWE at the time. Unfortunately, in 2006 Cappotelli was diagnosed with brain cancer shortly after starting wrestling. Because of his ailment, he had no choice but to put his career on hold. He survived the surgery and all looked favorable. But the cancer returned in 2017. Cappotelli said to the WWE:
“Life is the most precious gift we are given. I can inspire others not to give up on a life they have been blessed to have. That’s why I’m trying to spread hope.”
Cappotelli will be honored and remembered by many. Because of his positive outlook despite his health issues, his inspiration and hope can help others. Life is going to be tough, and there will always be an uphill battle. My prayers and thoughts are with Matt and his family during this time. Rest in peace, Matt Cappotelli. You have inspired and will keep inspiring people to accomplish their dreams.
