World Cup 2018: Australia vs Peru Preview

Australia will seek to gain a pass to the Round of 16 with a win over an already eliminated Peru. Despite this, the Socceroos will have to fight hard against Peru. The South Americans headed to Russia with high expectations after qualifying to the World Cup after 36 years. Nevertheless, Los Incas want head back home with a win and perhaps spoil Australia’s chances of advancing.

Unfortunately for Australia, they have lost four of their last five World Cup matches. Their last result in favor came against Denmark where they finished on a draw. In addition, their last three World Cup goals have come from the penalty sport.

On the contrary, Peru have never faced an Oceania country in the World Cup. However, they come from defeating New Zealand in qualification play-off to get to the World Cup. On the down side for Peru, they are win-less in their last eight World Cup matches (D2, L6). They have not scored in six of those games.

All Australia needs is a win over Peru with a French defeat to the Danes.

Possible Line-Ups:

Australia: Mathew Ryan, Aziz Behich, Mark Milligan, Trent Sainsbury, Josh Risdon, Aaron Mooy, Tom Rogic, Mile Jedinak, Robbie Kruse, Tomi Juric, Mathew Leckie

Peru: Pedro Gallese; Luis Advincula, Christian Ramos, Anderson Santamaria, Miguel Trauco; Renato Tapia, Yoshimar Yotun; Andre Carrillo, Christian Cueva, Edison Flores; Paolo Guerrero

Prediction:

Despite Peru’s latest performance where they were so, but so very close, in each game, Australia will come on top. The Socceroos hopes are still alive and all they need is a win.

Australia 3 – 2 Peru
