World Cup 2018: Russia Outs Saudi Arabia in Opener
Moscow, Russia – Russia outs Saudi Arabia in opener with a 5-0 win at the Luzhniki Stadium. The match started off well and came to life in the 12th minute when Yury Gazinsky headed home the opener. The Russians were in control for the majority of the match. However, they were dealt a blow with star midfielder Alan Dzagoev limping off with a suspected hamstring injury.
Substitute Denis Cheryshev took no time to settle into the game as he doubled the hosts’ lead in the 43rd minute.
Forward Artem Dzyuba headed Russia’s third in the 71st minute, just 90 seconds after coming on as a substitute for Fedor Smolov.
Cheryshev thumped in a fourth and Golovin’s free kick in injury time further added to the visitors’ misery.
Egypt and Uruguay are due to play the second Group A match in Yekaterinburg tomorrow.
