In a publicity stunt, similar to LeBron James’ move to Miami, the Frenchman made a series of videos that would finally make the announcement. The 27-year-old allowed production company Movistar to capture his decision-making process. After a 30-minute documentary, Griezmann eventually committed himself to Los Rojiblancos.
Griezmann scored 29 goals in all competitions for Atletico last season. Atleti finished second in La Liga and won the Europa League. He currently is with France representing his national team in the World Cup where his side will meet Australia on June 16.
“They are doing everything they can to keep Atletico growing and so that they can play the Champions League final at home, they are making an effort to bring top players, I feel like I want to stay in.
“This is going to make a difference.
“I have decided to stay.”
In addition, Atletico added fellow Frenchman Thomas Lemar from Monaco while resigning Jose Maria Gimenez. Atletico will host the final of the Champions League next season and are looking forward to creating a competitive team to win the tournament.
