CM Punk’s Trial with WWE Doctor Won’t Finish Up Anytime Soon
If you are one of those that will forever be wondering if/when we’ll see CM Punk make a triumphant return, perhaps this information will put your mind at rest.
Everyone knows that CM Punk was very vocal about WWE’s doctor, Chris Amann, following his departure from the company in 2014. He claimed that he had been misdiagnosed, forced to work injured, and medically cleared him despite being injured. Dr. Amann is still employed by the WWE. So, despite all of Punk’s allegations, the WWE is seemingly standing by the doctor.
That being said, this whole case is about Dr. Amann seeking $1 million dollars in damages for libel and slander. Punk made comments on his friend Colt Cabana’s podcast, “Art of Wrestling”, regarding his medical issues.
Although the case was set to begin moving in Cook County, Illinois on May 22, it was initially believed a settlement would be reached. However, there have been delays. Colt has submitted evidence (possibly audio from his podcast) to the courts. It is becoming abundantly clear that each party will be looking to take this court to a jury trial.
PWInsider has reported that jury selection began last Thursday. They also report that someone close to Punk’s legal team claims that they have been working hard on building a case against the WWE’s doctor, prepping for a jury trial for quite a while now.
If Punk should win, it will be some kind of a moral victory for him. Perhaps that would bring him some kind of closure and peace with the WWE. Additionally, the win would force Dr. Amann to pay all the legal fees. PWInsider also suggests, however, that the WWE is paying for Dr. Amann’s lawsuit anyways.
