The Season So Far
Liverpool’s only blip on their record came last weekend away at Manchester United. After their perfect start to the new season came to an end after that 1-1 draw, Liverpool are not in a different position as they were previously. Although their performance at Old Trafford was nothing to shout about, Liverpool did show resilience and guile to come back and grab a point. Players like Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Adam Lallana have shown they can make an impact off the bench. Divock Origi also put in a dominant display after replacing Mohammed Salah who sustained an injury in the pre-game warm-up.
Tottenham have been in a shaky state for the recent weeks. A 1-1 draw to Watford at home signaled the evident discontent in the Spurs camp. Despite their 5-0 demolition job of Red Star Belgrade in midweek, there are definitely still signs to worry about for Mauricio Pochettino’s men. A positive result away in Liverpool could show the rest of the Premier League that all is not lost just yet for Tottenham and their Champions League qualification hopes. A loss and if other results go against them, however, could see the Lilywhites drop to as low as 15th.
Team News
Liverpool will assess Trent Alexander-Arnold up until kick-off after battling with illness throughout the week. His full-back companion Andrew Robertson is said to have recovered from a knock he sustained away to Genk in the Champions League on Wednesday. Joel Matip may miss his third game in a row as he continues to nurse a knee problem.
For Tottenham, other than the longterm sidelining of Hugo Lloris, they have no new injury concerns. Ryan Sessegnon, who has not featured since his summer transfer from Fulham, could be involved in the matchday squad after finishing his hamstring rehabilitation.
