Giants-Marlins Preview: Moving On From A Dreadful Week

It was not a pretty week for the San Francisco Giants. First getting outscored by the Braves 21-11 and dropping three of the four games. Then only to be swept by the D-Backs, getting outscored 34-8. The Giants only won 1 of 7 games on their homestand and introduced yet another new Left Fielder into the dumpster fire. This Giants-Marlins series will be a real test of just how far down the ladder they are.

This road trip will feature two of the worst teams in the league. First Miami and then to Baltimore. But by the end of the week, worst in the league could be decided. What should be a wake-up call trip to everyone on the Giants, it will be a real test to see just how bad the dog days of summer could get in San Francisco.

Game 1

The entire Giants-Marlins series will feature a battle of two struggling pitchers. Tonight is no different. Jeff Samardzija takes the hill for the Giants against the Marlins Trevor Richards. The Giants offense has been stagnant and quiet all week. If there was ever a chance for the bats to wake up, it would be tonight against Richards who comes in with a 4.14 ERA. The same however could be said for the Marlins. The fish are coming off some solid offensive production and will look to stay hot against a lost Jeff Samardzija.

Game 2

If Game 1 tonight doesn’t work out for the Giants, they will look to Game 2 as a must win. The only steady arm so far this season Madison Bumgarner will lead the Giants out against Pablo Lopez who is 3-5 with a 5.40 ERA on the season. While the record doesn’t indicate much about how well a pitcher has thrown, if the offense can’t get it going against Lopez tomorrow night, we should expect more drastic changes in the lineup.

Game 3

The final game of the series features more question marks on the mound. Drew Pomeranz for the Giants; who started off the year decent but has since divebombed to the bottom. He will battle against the Marlins Sandy Alcantara. Alcantara will come in with a 4.50 ERA over 10 starts. Giants-Marlins will not be a very pretty series. And if the Giants can take two out of three I think they will look at it in a positive light. But if we see the Giants drop two of three or even get swept by the Miami Marlins, I would only expect Farhan Zaidi to use more and more call-ups as the season progresses into the summer.
