Mets Weekly Wrap-Up #9: Mets Get Back To .500

After winning six of their last seven, the Mets now find themselves back at .500. They currently sit 4.5 GB in the division and 3.0 GB of a Wild Card spot. They finished their homestand (6-1) with a sweep of the Nationals and a series win of the Tigers.

Series With The Nationals

When all seemed lost, the Mets started the week with a vow of confidence in their manager from the front office. The Mets backed it up with a 5-3 win over the Nats that ended their previous five-game losing streak. On Tuesday, the Mets were involved in some late-inning drama with the Nats. After the bullpen blew the lead in the eighth, Pete Alonso clobbered a game-tying homer. Amed Rosario would then give the Mets the win with an infield walk-off single and things were starting to turn around.

Wednesday night was perhaps the craziest night of them all. After trailing 1-0 almost the whole game, the Mets offense erupted for six runs in the eighth. Juan Lagares hit a three-run double to give the Mets the lead. Later in the inning, Rajai Davis (who arrived in the third inning) crushed a three-run homer, his first as a Met, to seal the deal on the Mets win.

Thursday night the replaceMETS would come through again. After giving up the lead in the top half of the inning, Carlos Gomez came up with a go-ahead three-run homer to give the Mets the lead and a sweep of the Nationals.

Series With The Tigers

The Mets would then open their series with Detroit. After losing a back-and-forth affair in game one, the two teams had an extra-inning affair Saturday night. Tomás Nido came through in the thirteenth with a walk-off solo homer (the first walk-off of his career). The Mets would win again the next day 4-3 after another clutch homer from Adeiny Hechavarria and close out a 6-1 homestand.

What Lies Ahead For The Team

This week, the Mets will head to the West Coast to take on some NL West foes. They will spend four games against the Dodgers in L.A. and then head to Arizona for three games. With both the Dodgers and D-Backs playing well, this week will be a true test of how much guts this Mets team has.
