Pirates Take The Series Against The Padres

The Pirates lost game one in San Diego before they took the next three games in dramatic fashion. In return, Pirates take three of four from Padres.

Series Pitching

Jordan Lyles got the ball in the second game and the Padres counter-acted with Joey Lucchesi. Lyles had one of if not his best start as a Pirate this season going seven strong innings, allowing five hits, one run (earned), one walk and one home-run. What made Lyles outing so special was that fact that he finished his days work with striking out twelve Padres. On the other hand, Joey Lucchesi also went seven innings for the Padres. Much like Lyles, Lucchesi allowed five hits, two runs (both earned), no walks and one home run. More so, Lucchesi only struck out six Pirates.

In game three, the Pirates sent Montana DuRapau to the mound. The Padres counter-acted with Nick Margevicius. DuRapau only pitched two innings allowing one hit and one walk along with four strikeouts. However, DuRapau didn’t qualify for the victory. That victory would go to Steve Brault, who pitched 3 and 1/3 innings. In that time frame, Brault allowed four hits, two runs (both earned), four walks and two strikeouts. For the Padres, Nick Margevicius went four innings, allowed eight hits, six runs (all earned), one walk, two strikeouts, and four home runs. In game four on Sunday, Joe Musgrove pitched for the Pirates and the Padres opposed him with Cal Quantrill. Musgrove went 6 and 1/3 innings allowing four hits, four runs (three earned), one walk, four strikeouts, and one home run. Cal Quantrill pitched five innings allowing eight hits, five runs (all earned), two walks, two strikeouts, and one home-run.

What’s Next

The Pirates head home to PNC Park where they’ll still face NL West opponents. First up is the Colorado Rockies followed by a weekend series with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Conclusion

The Pirates take three of four from Padres. The Pirates will look to carry the momentum gained on the road trip back home and climb the NL Central standings.
