Pittsburgh Pirates Begin Home Stand

As if winning a series out on the West Coast was great, the Pirates begin homestand with the Rockies. Following the series with the Rockies, the Pirates will face the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Colorado Rockies

The Colorado Rockies enter Tuesdays’ game with a record of 20-25 and sit in fourth place in the NL West standings. The Rockies are 9.5 games behind divisional leader Los Angeles Dodgers and are 4-6 in their last ten games. The Rockies are losers of four of their last five including a three-game weekend sweep at the hands of the Philadelphia Phillies. Currently, the Rockies are 11-14 on the road.

Pittsburgh Pirates

The Pittsburgh Pirates enter Tuesdays’ game with a record of 24-20 and have jumped in the NL Central to third place and are just 2.5 games behind the divisional leading Chicago Cubs. Currently, the Pirates are 7-3 in their last ten games and have a home record of 9-9 (.500).

Pitching Match-Up

In game one, the Pirates will send RHP Chris Archer (1-3, 5.58 ERA, 34 strikeouts) to the mound. For the Rockies, RHP German Marquez (4-2, 3.80 ERA, 65 strikeouts) will counter-act.

Colorado Rockies Best Hitter

Nolan Arenado is the leading hitter for the Colorado Rockies. Arenado comes into the series with a .306 batting average, 11 home runs, 35 RBIs and one stolen base. Arenado also has an OPS of .931

Pittsburgh Pirates Best Hitter

Batting average wise it’s Melky Cabrera who is hitting .341 with three home runs, 14 RBIs and two stolen bases. Cabrera also has an OPS of .852. Overall, the best hitter for the Pirates is Josh Bell. Many fans coming into this season didn’t know what to expect from Bell. However, thus far he’s hitting .333 with 14 home runs and 44 RBIs. Bell’s OPS is 1.101 which is ranking very high across the majors. In fact, Bell is coming off of being named NL Player of the Week.

Conclusion

The Pirates will begin a three-game series with the Rockies followed by the Los Angeles Dodgers.
